Lifeguard I

2012 - 2016

Having been a competitive swimmer my entire life, I posses strong skills that unfortunately many people lack. In 2010, I found myself living on the California coast, and soon fell in love with the ocean environment. I have always held much respect for the ocean and the power and danger it presents, and felt as though I was in a unique position to help others who aren't as knowledgeable. In March 2012, I tried out to be a State Parks Lifeguard. After grueling physical tests, interviews, and competitive training, I was hired to protect the beaches in Monterey California. I was trained in water rescue techniques for the ocean environment, advanced first aid at the Emergency Medical Responder level (EMR), crisis leadership, and public interactions. During my time as a Lifeguard I, I received advanced trainings in beach vehicle operations, and rescue watercraft such as Jet Skis and Inflatable Rescue Boats. I also advanced my medical skills by gaining my EMT certifications.

Lifeguard II

2016 - Present

In 2016, several Lifeguard II positions opened in my district and I interviewed for a spot. Due to my experience, initiative, and proven capabilities, I was promoted to Beach Operations Lead. My newly expanded duties included administrative work such as performance evaluations, training new hires, and acting as a liaison between seasonal staff and permanent staff, representing both when needed. I was also chosen to receive training to become a certified Emergency Medical Services Instructor, meaning I am qualified to teach EMS courses to any California POST affiliated agency. I continue to work this job in an extremely part-time fashion due to my career advances in the field of Software Engineering, but I strive to be able to serve the public as best as I can when I am available to do so.
